Bye Bye Birdie (1963) at The Colonial Theatre -- In May we're showing ''Movies to See with Mom'' during our Classics on Sundays series. ''This rather benign satire on the foibles of rock 'n' roll is like an episode of ''Dobie Gillis'' with songs. Before reporting for his military service, an Elvis-like character makes a visit to a small midwestern town. And wouldn't you know it, those darn teenagers just get all silly. Dick Van Dyke repeats his star-making Broadway role, and is helped by pleasant performances from Ann-Margaret and Paul Lynde. Enjoyable tunes like ''Put on a Happy Face'' and ''Kids'' enliven this ever-so-amusing confection.'' (TLA Film & Video Guide). 1963, George Sidney, US, 112 min. Our thanks to Sony for loaning us their archival print of this film.  Click here for more info.
